Moving to University for the first time can be equally as exciting as it can be daunting. I will always remember the first day I moved to UNI like it was yesterday, it was such a mixture of emotions for me, especially as I had never moved away from my home town in Wiltshire before. Now, having just moved back and about to start my 3rd year I am loving my life in London and the day by day rush it gives me. There is never a dull moment and always lots going on, but I don't think that just stands for me choosing to live in London, I think that it happens whatever UNI town you decide to move to as there are people from all walks of life just waiting to experience more in the world and sharing these experiences is just one of the perks of starting UNI journey! One of the main things I love to do and seems quite a common thing amongst a lot of people who do decide to go to UNI is the decoration of making your Uni room feel more at home. There is nothing better than walking into an empty room at the start of a new academic year, unpacking everything you own and making it unique to you and your style. It can make you feel better when you're feeling a little home sick and really wish you had those home comforts, so making it as cosy as possible is important if you feel this way! For me, I love hearts, pink and anything floral or girlie so whenever people walk into my room they know instantly what I like! This year I decided to buy a few more things for my room and give a few of my old things away to charity, just because I am going to be moving out of Uni next year & into a house with my boyfriend so wanted to start getting bits and pieces together ready for when that day finally arrives! I have posted photos with this blog to the left so you can get an idea of the things that I think are good ideas to make your UNI room feel cosy and warm, especially during those winter months when you are going to be spending lots of time in your room either studying or watching endless amounts of films. Obviously, I am a girl so I don't think this post relates to boys much but I think anybody loves a good poster here and there to cover up those bare white walls that are almost like a blank canvas when you first walk in and experience your new 'home'! Glass Tealight Holder - B&M Home I absolutely love this glass jar with the rustic rope at the top and cute black heart at the front. As you can see I have already used this by popping a small tea light in it and I have only been at Uni for 5 days but have used it every day! I absolutely love candles in my room, especially in Autumn or Winter (even though we aren't allowed them, naughty!) But I am very careful and never leave one unattended so an accident never happens! I just thought this would be perfect to go with my room to make it feel even more girly! |
Floral & Bird Bunting - Wilkinsons
A friend who I lived with last year actually gave me this before she graduated from Uni in the summer, I actually cut it in half so it would fit at the bottom of my pin board but I think any small decoration like this makes the room look a lot better already!
Wooden Heart Box - B&M Home
Again, another heart item! This was so cheap & I could not resist it when I was in the shop, it's perfect to store all my nail varnishes and keep them neatly tucked away on my shelf above my desk. They also sold this box in grey but I preferred the lighter colour with its purposely chipped paint edges.
Hanging memories - eBay
I absolutely love filling my Uni walls with memories & photos of friends and family. This hanging memories line I made myself is only of my boyfriend and I & some amazing moments we've shared together. I bought the ribbon and little pegs from eBay which were a bargain & printed off the photos myself on photo paper and used a website for a template of a Polaroid style picture. I have to be honest and say that this was not my idea and I first saw the idea on Pinterest & knew straight away I had to do it for myself. I am thinking of doing another one already! (Please excuse the massive crack in my wall, that's student accommodation for you ;) ) A little bit of creativity can go a long way!
'Love' Wooden Sign - eBay
I love little ornaments like this to just pop on your bedside table, this just caught my eye instantly. My favourite colour & a cute word all in one go and I am pretty sure it was under £3!
Pink Rose Fairy Lights - eBay
Another eBay find! I had to re purchase some lights for my room this year as my other ones broke after two years of usage but I love these ones just as much. They are battery operated and I have put them at the top of my pin board for a bit of extra decoration. They were a bargain at £10 and look gorgeous when all my other lights are off as they give such a warm glow.
I hope you liked this post about some of the ways in which I make my Uni room feel more cosy & at home. Obviously I have a lot of things in my room to make it feel perfect for me but these are just some of my most recent purchases! Please feel free to leave comments if you have any other questions, or want to know more information about each little item!
Bye for now! :) x
